FreedomSoft develops desktop applications for students, researchers and educators. Every application is supplied at no cost, runs on your own computer, and keeps your documents, media and presentations in your own possession.
There are no subscriptions, no trial periods, no advertisements and no paid editions. A degree is expensive enough without the software required to complete it.
Installed on your own computer
Each application is installed locally and continues to function without an internet connection. Your files remain on your own machine rather than on a remote service.
Open to inspection
FreedomTex is published under the MIT licence, and its source code may be examined, studied and reused. The applications that follow will also be distributed without charge.
The applications
FreedomTex
Available now
A complete LaTeX writing environment for theses, journal articles and presentations. It provides a live PDF preview, automatic installation of missing packages and direct import of references from Zotero, and the Windows installer contains a full TeX distribution.
A private vault for personal photographs and videos, held under strong encryption. Media is viewed and played inside the vault itself, through the built in photo viewer and media player, so that private files are never handed to other applications.
A presentation application in which an entire lecture is assembled in one place. Existing PowerPoint files can be imported directly, and a single slide may hold a PDF, a web page, a spreadsheet or a running simulation, so that the presenter never has to leave the application.
The source is written on the left and the document appears on the right. Double clicking the PDF moves the cursor to the corresponding line of the source.
FreedomSoft software is always free. Every application published here is free of charge and will remain so. The purpose of this work is to remove the cost of essential software from the shoulders of students.
